A flash while thinking what to make is just formed in my case. Doing only this, I continued making clothes more than 40 years. Many people praise my clothes that they have originality particularly on the way of color usage. I remember that a painter in oil said at my clothes exhibition, "The colors go well together."
I often use the cloth of the red system for making clothes. It seems to me that red becomes my image color. Overall image of clothes is decided with a color of the base cloth. Cloths of various colors are kept in order at the atelier. Cloth is something like a paint. I make clothes with my personality input, mixing the paints in the head.
I liked making clothes from childhood. It is not an exaggeration. I make clothes every day from morning to evening, using a sewing machine. I used to make them after I laid a daughter during child care. The machine I used for the first time came down from my mother. I used it so much that smoke came out from the motor. (laughter)
Various sewing works can be done in one-button because present sewing machines have abundant functions. However sewer's skill and mind are eventually important. Even though a function of the machine itself is enhanced, it alone cannot make good clothes. No matter how wonderful the design is, people may not enjoy the clothes for a long time if the sewing skill is poor. I think it necessary for me to sew even invisible part of clothes to show the the good faith for both clothes and customers. One of my customers said, "Makers spirit resides with the clothes." I will try to make good cut clothes with my whole heart so that customers may use them for a long time.
The clothes which I make tend to individualize the character of the person wearing it. Especially the red is strong in personality to attract the public eyes. When walking the downtown in such outstanding clothes, those who are interested in a fashion seem to come and talk to. A customer's report as "I was talked to about the clothes again" helps me increase motivation to make clothes.
I am only thankful to customers for their good will to come to me. There is a customer who even says, "I don't know how my life is if I haven't met the clothes of Chieko." It's not only my roll but also my hope that I continue making clothes which brighten customers in the manner to be true to the word.
